Doris Rockwood-Cerveri - Class of 1932

Doris L. Rockwood was born on May 17, 1914, in the small town of Goldfield, Nevada. She lived there until she was sixteen years old, when she moved to Sparks because her mother and stepfather had a bakery here. Doris attended Sparks High School where she was a baseball player and an active member of the Spanish Club. Her graduation was held in the year 1932.

With her first husband, Louis Pastrell, she had three children: Dana Pastrell, Darrell Pastrell, and Karen Wesley. While square dancing, she met her second husband, John Cerveri, who passed away in October 2003.

Doris started writing a year after she married John Cerveri. She went on to write for the Reno Gazette Journal and the Sparks Tribune, and she reported on social events for towns such as Spring Creek and Lamoille. Doris then went on to write a total of six books about Nevada including Nevada: A Colorful Past, and Reno: A Pictorial History.

Doris was also a past president of the Nevada Women Press. She worked for the State of Nevada for the Department of Agriculture for fourteen years and then for the Speech and Drama Department for another two to three years. She retired in 1974. Doris still writes for an Indian magazine today called Indian Artifact Magazine, published in Philadelphia.
