George Maldonado - Class of 1968

George was born on September 24, 1950 to Ramon and Priscilla Maldonado. He attended Robert Mitchell and Alice Maxwell Elementary schools, and Dilworth Middle before going to Sparks High. At Sparks High School, he was a very spirited Railroader with varsity letters in basketball, baseball, and football all three years.

He graduated in 1968, and was accepted to attend the University of Nevada, Reno, where he played on the Wolf Pack baseball and basketball teams. In 1971, his dreams came true when he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. He played professional baseball for five years.

At the conclusion of his baseball career, he graduated from UNR with a teaching degree. He taught at Sparks and Hug High Schools. He was active with several youth sports organizations in the City of Sparks. After teaching, George went to work at the First National Bank of Nevada. In 1988, he became a realtor, and subsequently landed a position as a State Farm Insurance agent. During this time he also served his country in the Nevada Air National Guard.

He was the beloved husband of the late Terri Maldonado and the dedicated father of Ashlee and Erica. His brothers Ray, Jerry, Alan, and Jon will always miss their fun and loving brother.
