Jack Streeter - Class of 1938
Jack Streeter was born on December 1, 1921 in Ely Nevada. During his years at Sparks High, when Proctor Hug was the principal and Mrs.Mantle was the favorite teacher, Jack was Student Body President. He was involved in football and athletics. In 1939, he was the Representative Student, an award given by the staff and students.
In 1939, he graduated from Sparks as an honors student, headed towards the University of Nevada at Reno. While at UNR, Jack was active in the R.O.T.C. program and became the Golden Gloves Champion.
Jack graduated from UNR in 1943, and went into the army. During his time in the army, he was in nine battles, including: Battle of the Bulge in Germany, Battle of Mortmain in France and D-Day on Omaha Beach in Normandy.
For his heroic deeds and outstanding servitude, Jack has received enough awards to give him the title of Nevada’s Most Outstanding and Highly Decorated WWII hero.
Upon returning from service, Jack enrolled in Hastings Law School in San Francisco, California and graduated in 1948. In 1950, Jack was elected District Attorney of Washoe County and in 1951, founded the Nevada State and National District Attorney Association, for which he is a lifetime member.
More recently he has had the honor of having a new wing in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, here in Reno, named for him. He was given the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 from the Washoe County Bar Association.
Jack has been married to his wife Vera for 46 years and has a son, Jackson Streeter, M.D. Presently Jack practices law part time and enjoys an active lifestyle of traveling.
