Shaun D. Carey - Class of 1975

            Shaun Carey was born in the town of Swindon, England on December 2nd, 1957. Shaun attended Sparks High School all four years and graduated at the age of 17 in 1975. During his time at SHS, Carey was an avid football player and wrestler. During his senior year, he won second place in state wrestling. After his time at Sparks High School, Carey attended the University of Nevada, Reno for six years and left with a degree in civil engineering. He married Jane Barry on August 16th, 1980, and together had two sons, Scott and Pat.

            In 1992, Shaun was named the Public Works Director for the City of Sparks. In 1999, Shaun was named Assistant City Manager and was promoted to the City Manager of Sparks in 2000.

            Shaun is dedicated to his hometown and the high school he graduated from, He played a major role in three Sparks High School improvements: a new gymnasium floor, a larger parking lot, and a new track to replace the old dirt one. Along with Carey’s great successes and generosity towards Sparks High School, through his leadership, he turned a hole in the ground into the City of Spark’s centerpiece – the Sparks Marina. Carey also worked with numerous other parties to build Legends Mall at Sparks Marina, Shaun Carey is a dedicated and kind person and has showed great commitment to the city he grew up in.
