Harvey Whittemore - Class of 1970

Harvey Whittemore was born in Carson City, Nevada on August 17, 1952. He was one of five children, and his parents struggled to make ends meet. Harvey moved to Sparks at the age of twelve and attended Dilworth and Spparks Junior High Schools. He went on to attend Sparks High School and was a member of the Honor Society and Student Government. He was named “Outstanding Boy” of 1970 and graduated in the top five of his class. Loving all sports, he played football, basketball, and baseball in high school.

In 1973, Mr. Whittemore married Annette, his wife of thirty-three years. He describes his wife as, “the most phenomenal partner anyone could ever have.” They have five children: DJ, Andrea, Scott, Natalie, and Chase. The family is extremely close and even works together.

After high school, Harvey received his Bachelor Degree in 1974 from UNR. He furthered his education by going to Arizona State Law School, graduating in 1977. In 1978, he became a lobbyist and has fought for working people’s rights and equal opportunity throughout Nevada.

Those who are close to him describe him as direct, big-hearted, and generous and as someone who has a memory like an elephant - he never forgets anything. Mr. Harvey Whittemore is a man who has achieved the American dream and has helped countless others do the same.
