Jerry Maldonado ~ Class of 1965

           Jerry Maldonado was born on September 25th, 1947, in Reno, Nevada to Ramon and Priscilla Maldonado. He was the second oldest of five boys. Jerry attended Robert Mitchell for elementary school and Sparks Junior High School for his middle school years.

            During Jerry’s tenure at Sparks high School, he was a two-sport athlete. Jerry lettered in basketball and baseball. After graduating from Sparks High School in 1965, Jerry attended the University of Nevada where he was a two-sport athlete lettering in both basketball and baseball. Additionally, he was a member of the ROTC program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation in the United States Army.

            During Jerry’s service to his country, he served in the Vietnam War where he received a Bronze Star. While in the military he was with the 82nd Airborne, Army Rangers, Jungle Expert, Special Forces, as well as Delta Force. After his retirement as a Major from the Army he returned home to Sparks, Nevada and earned a master’s degree in special education.

            Jerry worked for the Washoe County School District for 20 years after receiving his degree. Jerry will always be remembered for his passionate school spirit, competitive nature, athleticism, and his dedication to serving his country.
