Janet Pitts Parigini ~ Class of 1961
Janet was born in McGill, NV but her family moved to Sparks when she was two years old. Janet has spent most of the rest of her life residing in Sparks and attended Sparks schools. Her brother Tom Pitts graduated ahead of her in 1958. Her son, Dr. Rick Parigini also graduated from Sparks in 1982. Janet married her high school sweetheart George Parigini in 1963. He graduated as Outstanding Athlete and being in athletics herself led to the family being involved in sports. They water skied, played volleyball, and bicycled together.
Upon graduation, Janet attended University of Nevada and earned a BS in Elementary Ed and Biology. Her first year of teaching began at Greenbrae Elementary where she enjoyed many fulfilling years with the students. In 1988 Janet attended Fresno Pacific College and earned her master’s in teaching Elementary Math and Science. She then spent many years as a Math Trainer for WCSD and presenting math and science seminars for teachers in the area. She was active with the Washoe Co. Math Assoc. and the Science Teacher Association, both of which awarded her outstanding in those respective fields.
One of the highlights of her career was winning the Presidential award for teaching Math and Science in the year 1993. A trip to Washington DC with her husband and the other winner from NV and all other states was included. Janet also taught Classroom Management and Skillful Teacher classes for the district.
