Joe Hardy - Class of 1967

Joe Hardy was born in Reno, Nevada and is a second-generation Railroader. While a student at Sparks High, Joe served as student body president and was a member of the basketball and track teams. When he graduated in 1967, he was named outstanding senior boy.

He attended UNR, receiving a Bachelor of Science in 1973, was a member of the second class of UNR's medical school and then transferred to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he finished his medical school training, graduating in 1976. He did his family practice residency in Phoenix from 1976 to 1979 and then served in the United State Air Force from 1979 to 1982, attaining the rank of major.

In 1982, Joe and his family moved to Boulder City, NV, where he established his practice in family medicine for over 40 years. He was active as a physician educator also for over 40 years. In 1999 he began his political career. He was a councilman and Mayor Pro Tempore from 1999 to 2002. Joe was then elected to the Nevada State Assembly, where he served from 2002- 2010. He was elected to the Nevada State Senate in 2010 and served there until 2022.

He served as President pro-tempore 2014 - 2016. In 2022, Joe was elected Mayor of Boulder city, Nevada where he continues to serve. Joe and his wife of 51 years, Jill, have 8 children and 21 grandchildren. Joe was inducted into the Senate Hall of Fame in 2023.
