Rob Hastings - Educator of Sparks High School

       Rob Hastings grew up on the beaches of Southern California. He graduated from Brea Olinda High School in 1972. He began his college career at Fullerton Junior College and then transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating in 1977. He also received his Masters Degree in science from UNR in 1984.

He was a member of the faculty at Sparks High School from 1981 to 2002, teaching both science and PE. He served as football coach, both as an assistant and was head varsity coach from 1989 to 1994. He guided the 1990 team to their first winning season in 20 years and first playoff appearance in 24 years.

Coach Hastings was the varsity baseball coach from 1982 to 2001. He holds the record for the most wins at SHS baseball. He was named Northern Nevada Baseball Coach of the Year three times and the Silver State's overall Coach of the Year in 1990. He had 60 players go on to play college ball and 13 players get drafted professionally. Ten of his players became head baseball coaches at the high school level or higher. He managed the 1995 USA Under 16 team at the Beijing Friendship Games, the 1998 Nevada U-18 All Stars in the Pan Pacific games and the 2001 Nevada U-16 Stars which won the Gold Coast Games in Australia. He was inducted into the NIAA Hall of Fame in 2022. Rob and his wife Kacy have three children, Kendra, Britt and Rory, and eight grandchildren.
