Patrick "Pat" Chaney - Class of 1974

            Pat attended Sparks HS from 1971-1974. He moved to Sparks, NV in 10th grade and was a varsity baseball letterman the three years he attended. After taking a year off, Pat attended The University of Nevada. He was an English major and a member of the University of Nevada baseball team as a shortstop and second baseman.

Pat was an educator for the WCSD for 35.5 years teaching English and coaching to generations of families in the Sparks area. He was hired mid-year after completing his student teaching at Dilworth Middle School in 1980. He left Dilworth in 1995 to open Mendive Middle School and ended his career there in 2015 after teaching and mentoring several current ELA teachers in the WCSD.

Pat was also an avid coach. He coached the Sparks Girls Basketball team from 1983-1995. His 1988-89 season the girls went to State, and the 1992-93 team were the Division Il Champions. In 1990, he was a coach for Sparks High School boys baseball, and they were named the Northern Nevada AAA Division 2 Champions. He coached the Sparks Babe Ruth and Centennial Little League teams from 2000-2007. His teams were City Champions and All-Stars over the years. Between 1995-2009 he coached several undefeated seasons of Mendive Middle School girls and boys basketball. He coached basketball for his daughter's team while she was a player at Reed High School, in addition to coaching his son in baseball at Reed High School. Pat leaves a legacy behind of being a hometown teacher and coach to many in the Sparks community
