Dallas Byington – Class of 1950

Dallas Byington was born on December 20, 1932 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada.  Later when he was about eight years old, his family moved from Reno to Sparks where he attended Robert Mitchell Elementary, Sparks Junior High, and then Sparks High School.  During his high school career, Dallas was involved in football, basketball, and boxing. Quill and Scroll and Junior Masquers.  He was also a part of the school leadership as Student Body Vice President during his senior year.  Dallas was also selected as an All-State End in 1949.  That same year, Sparks won the state football title.  Dallas graduated from Sparks High School in 1950.

            In 1951, Sall joined the Army national Guard and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the first Officer Candidate class and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation.  Dall retired after thirty years as a Colonel.  Dall married his wife Barbara in December of 1959, and in 1963 the couple had a son, Russel.

            Throughout his life, Dall was highly involved in his community as a Cub Scout leader as the coach of a Little League Baseball team as a member of the Nevada Beef Council and, for fourteen years he was a member of the Douglas County Planning Commission.  He served as president of the Commission for seven years.

            Dall passed away on May 28, 2009 at the age of 76.  Dall was a kind man who loved life and was very involved in his community.
