Debbie Whitcomb – Friend of Sparks High School
Debbie Whitcomb was born Deborah Ann Callahan on September 19, 1961 in Akron Ohio. At 8 years old she moved to Reno, Nevada with her father. He was on his way to starting his own company Callahan Printing. She attended Hug High School and as a freshman; twirled flags but soon found her calling in peer counseling her sophomore year. Debbie always enjoyed being someone her peers could look up to; she always wanted to help.
Debbie became Mrs. Whitcomb on October 5, 1983. She had been training with the Reno Police Department when she met her soon to be husband Joe Whitcomb. Joe taught Debbie how to shoot a gun.
Debbie found out she was pregnant in 1985. Chris Whitcomb was born in March of 1986 to Debbie and Joe Whitcomb; he has continually been their pride and joy. When Chris was two years old, Debbie started her own child care. She has been the owner and operator for 23 years. Chris started high school – Sparks High School in 2000 and Debbie decided to get involved. It was her nature, so she joined the SHS Booster Club. She became the Booster Club President in 2003. When Chris graduated in 2004, Debbie decided to continue her involvement, even though she was a Hug Hawk alumnus. Her son, the faculty and the students at Sparks high made her never want to leave. She’s been the Booster Club President for eight years.
Debbie has been blessed with two lovely grandchildren; with her son in the Navy, she sees her grandchildren as often as possible. Debbie fears slowing down after being so busy for so long.
