J Wood Raw – Class of 1943
J Wood Raw was born May 25, 1925 in Reno, Nevada. He was student body president and the team captain of the varsity basketball team at Sparks High School. He graduated in 1943. Right after graduation J Wood joined the United States Navy. He graduated from flight school after World War II ended, but he served for twenty-three years.
In 1965 he retired from the Navy. He went to Seattle with his brother and after this he decided that college was his next step. He attended six different colleges: San Jose State College, Williams College, Massachusetts College, University of Georgia, University of Nevada, Reno and California College.
He was a principal at Sun Valley Elementary School and at Dilworth Middle School. J Wood was also a woodshop teacher at Sparks High School for thirty-seven years and retired in 1989. He is now teaching at Truckee Meadows Community College.
J Wood Raw and his wife, Marjorie, dated for about six years and then got married. He and Marjorie have three sons, Tom, Jon and Tim. J Wood and his wife have maintained fifty five years of marriage.
