Joel Glover – Class of 1961
Joel Glover was born on March 22, 1943 in Bakersfield California. He lived there until he was eight years old when he moved to Sparks, Nevada because of his father’s job.
Mr. Glover attended Sparks high School from 1957 to 1961. At SHS, he played center on the varsity football team which took the state championship his junior year. Mr. Glover was active in school politics and theater; he was the student body president his senior year and he participated in almost all school plays.
After graduating from high school in 1961, Joel Glover attended the University of Nevada, Reno. He went on to dental school at Northwestern University at Chicago. After obtaining his dental license, Mr. Glover joined the Navy as a dentist during the Vietnam War. Mr. Glover was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for Meritorious Service in 1969.
Mr. Glover later started his own practice in Reno, Nevada and became the president of the American Dental Association of Dental Examiners, the president of the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners (1979 – 1994), the president of the Nevada Section for the American Society of Dentistry for Children (1976), and a board member of the PEW Commission National Institute of Medicine.
In 1966 Mr. Glober married his wife, Mary Haines, of forty three years. They have two children together, Joel Jr. and Jeffe Glover, and four grandchildren.
