Jo Ann Roberts – Class of 1952
Born July 9, 1935 in Reno, Nevada Jo Ann Roberts has led a full and active life. During her time at Sparks High School, she was a part of yearbook, Spanish Club, Quill and Scroll and Pep Club. After she graduated in 1952, Mrs. Roberts perused a degree in education focusing on social studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. After she graduated from UNR in 1956, Mrs. Roberts started working for the First National Bank of Nevada. She worked her way up to become the vice president of the bank. While working there she was part of the National Association of Bank Women, the American Institute of Banking and Executive Women.
Mrs. Roberts, now widowed, was married to O.B. Roberts in 1962 – he died in February of 1979. Together they shared three wonderful children David, Sharen, and DeAnn.
Now retired, Mrs. Roberts is still quite active. She has been in many organizations including Girl Scouts, March of Dimes, National Association for Christians and Jews, the Civil Service Commission for the City of Sparks, and was also involved with the Ladies Guild at her church. In the past she has volunteered at Lincoln Park Elementary, Katherine Dunn Elementary and The Child Garden. Mrs. Roberts is an active member of Soroptimists International of Truckee Meadows currently serving as Parliamentarian.
Mrs. Roberts puts a high value on the education she received at Sparks High School, saying ghat “I received my degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, I received my education from Sparks High School.”
