John Flynn – Class of 1954
John Flynn was born on December 13, 1936 in Elko, Nevada. He attended Sparks High School from 1949 to 1954. In his time at Sparks High, he was the first student body president, he played basketball, baseball and football, he was also involved in many extracurricular activities.
After graduating in 1954, he went on to attend the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduating from UNR in 1958, Mr. Flynn joined the United States Army as an infantry officer. He went on to teach life skills and health, and he coached a variety of sports. He took many teams to the state championships. Mr. Flynn coached for several years then decided to go into another career. Mr. Flynn was an engineer, worked on a railroad and was also a paralegal.
Mr. Flynn went on to hold administrative jobs in the Washoe County School District. He was a Principal at Wooster High School, the first Principal at McQueen High School and a vice Principal at Sparks high School. Mr. Flynn and his wife, Joice, have been married for almost fifty years, they have three daughters, Denise, Charise and Patricia and one son, also named John. Mr. Flynn continues to be an avid softball player and a carpenter.
